Community-focused editor

The Concord Monitor, a family-owned daily newspaper and website consistently recognized as among the best in New England, is looking to add a talented journalist to its editing team.

You’ll be a key part of a three-member editing team responsible for planning and editing local reporting, working directly with the community and advancing our digital evolution.

Our editing team gets support from a central pagination desk, so you won’t need to build newspaper pages. But you will be involved in making the decisions that allow us to put out high-quality content on all our platforms, including daily print, our website, our app, newsletters, social media, a quarterly glossy lifestyle magazine and more.

There are many facets to the job, but the critical trait is a passion for local news. We need someone who values great journalism that addresses pressing issues in our communities and across our state. You’ll work with a committed group of colleagues, including an editor who has led coverage in New Hampshire for more than 20 years, and others who have decades of experience. And you’ll work closely with our talented, driven team of younger reporters who are on the front lines of our journalism.

We’re also looking to launch a series of new tools and a new website in the coming months, and you’ll play a big role in making sure our content and our website make for a great digital experience. Innovation and a willingness to experiment are welcome here.

We’re a flexible team and we’re built to amplify each other’s strengths. While we all edit and we’re all responsible for guiding content, what truly makes our newsroom special is that our editors and our reporters think big and are committed to our company’s shared mission of making local journalism strong in New Hampshire.

We value the critical and irreplaceable role journalism plays in society and have added new positions to further our goals in the past year, The successful candidate will be empowered to make a meaningful impact on the community, state, and local journalism as a whole.

We want to hear from you about what skills you’ll bring to the table. What are you passionate about and how would you bring that into our newsroom? This is a perfect position for a veteran editor who wants to be part of a great team, or a highly skilled reporter who is looking to make a major career step. We seek candidates with diverse perspectives and experiences to make our staff reflective of the community we serve.

Please send a cover letter and examples of recent work to publisher Steve Leone at sleone@cmonitor.com.
