Many newsrooms pledged to be more transparent about their staff diversity statistics and sources. Many pledged to reach parity goals or improve overall staff diversity. Many pledged to overhaul difficult environments for journalists from marginalized communities. They said they would do a better job of fairly covering our communities.
A year later, while some progress has been made, journalists of color are still largely reporting discrimination, racist or inaccurate news stories, a dearth of diversity in management, and painful work experiences.
